Santa Express

A tradition for us every Christmas is to ride a Santa Train, this year we rode the Mt Rainier Scenic Railroad Santa Express and it was so much fun! I love Christmas time, family and traditions! Making memories.
It was a short 1 hour drive to Elbe from Tacoma. We arrived 15 mintues before take off and got to hop right on the train so we weren’t cold at all.
We sat towards the front of the train where the tables were located, the heaters were on so we were toasty warm. We even had to take our jackets off because we were too hot. Just don’t forget to bring your winter gear because afterall it is the mountains :)
They serve free cookies and hot cocoa and have more available for purchase on the concession car(where Santa is located). The prices aren’t bad and the butter on the popcorn is the best I’ve ever had. Cash only. You can bring your own food/drinks (just no glass containers).
I didn’t get any pictures of Mason with Santa, he kept telling me “no pictures mom” :( But they had it cutely decorated and had kids sign their name with the “magic” pen, it was cute.

Okay I’ll stop talking and let you see pictures of our fun. And hurry there is only two weekends left to catch the Santa Express Train!!
Go purchase tickets here.

Don’t forget your camera and to have fun :)

My family and I were given tickets to ride the train to review. However all opinions expressed here are my own.

The Language Bear Books – Christmas idea

The Holidays are upon us, can you believe Christmas is less than 30 days away!! If you are like me you have been non stop thinking about Christmas since before Halloween was over and hardly have anything bought. Ive got a few people checked off our list but one person I have the hardest time buying for is my very own child. I don’t know what it is but Mason always gets put off till right before Christmas, I have the hardest time buying for him of course I could buy whatever off his list but most of that stuff is electronics and I try steering clear of those.

A simple and great gift to give any child this Christmas is a book, doesn’t require batteries, Its a great way to spend time with your loved ones. Bosley Builds a Treehouse by author Tim Johnson is intended to teach young children new words, phrases and is available with dual language translations in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Chinese and Japanese. It is the fourth book in the Bosley Bear series.

Mason is always wanting to learn words in Spanish and since I don’t know hardly any this is a great way for both of us to learn.

It has great illustrations; great for new readers or kids just looking at the colorful pictures. It makes it easy for both the parent and child to learn the words in a different language, I don’t know about you but I’m not a natural at learning foreign languages! :)

Author Tim Johnson
“Tim discovered the power of bilingual books while visiting Japan as a teenager. In 2011 he published his first dual language children’s book in 7 different foreign languages as a tool for increasing cultural awareness and gaining new perspectives. Bosley Bear has since become popular among US and international readers, providing a fantastic way for children to learn a second language in a fun, easy and natural way.” Read more about Tim here.

I was given a copy of the book to review, however all opinions expressed here are my own.

Pear Tree Greetings & giveaway

It’s that time of year again, where you start preparing for the holidays “Christmas”! One of my fav things to do around the holidays is give and receive Christmas cards. Yes I said receive, who doesn’t love going to the mail box and finding a card?!? My card tradition first started out buying the box of 16 cards, filling them out putting a school picture in it and mailing it to my family and friends. Now the big thing is the photo cards, love! All you have to do is pick that perfect picture(or more) to send to all your family and friends and no it doesn’t have to be a professional taken one. Then pick the design you like and order :)

Pear Tree Greetings has so many cute designs; makes it hard to choose just one. But they have everything from holiday post cards, photo ornaments, collage photo cards, magnet cards. Right now I’m really liking the ornament cards and the cards with photos and year reflections. Great quality cards with good prices.

Pumpkin Express Mt Rainier

My family and I drove up to Elbe, WA (Mt Rainier) on Sunday to ride the Pumpkin Express and we had such a blast! It was only an hour drive from Tacoma and not to mention fall in the PNW is beautiful! We got there plenty early, so we had time to walk around the small town, go inside the gift shop and take pictures.  There are a few places to eat in Elbe(but not many) or feel free to bring your own food, they even allow food/drinks on the train(no glass containers). They also have a concessions car on the train with reasonable prices. We got some popcorn and honestly it was the best butter I’ve ever tried!

When the train arrived it was very cool, all the kids were so excited and trying to “catch” the smoke. They were even allowing kids to go up and look in the front of the train(the engine part), Mason was too scared but what an awesome opportunity. All the staff were very friendly.  Standing outside by the train the noise was pretty loud, so if you child has sensitive ears you may want to bring ear plugs, but inside the noise wasn’t bad at all. Inside the train has heaters so it wasn’t cold but when you are outside(it is the mountains remember) you will not want to forget your coat!

Not only for children, adults will enjoy the ride as well. One thing I love about taking train rides is the scenery, a lot of the land you see doesn’t get car traffic. There is just something about trains that make me think of the early 1900s and makes me happy. Mason really loved the whole experience and was very well behaved. We rode the train from Elbe to Mineral Lake and then had 30 minutes to pick out pumpkins(everyone each got one to take home) and look at all the trains there and then back to Elbe train station. It was the perfect amount of time, not too long, not too short.

We had such a great time on the Pumpkin Express, we can’t wait to go back next year!

Mt Rainier Scenic Railroad also does a Santa Express, that looks awesome!
